FOUNDER AND THERAPIST

Andrew Stravitz, LMFT

Andrew is a husband, a father, a therapist, a washed-up athlete, and a minister — but at the core he’s learning to lead into life’s second half with the same honesty as his clients. Trial and aspiration shape how he practices: with complexity and without flinching.

In session, Andrew is a collaborator. He helps clients turn toward fear, failure, and fragility instead of away, on the conviction that the examined and honest life is curious, courageous, and compassionate.

He draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and classical psychoanalytic theory. He does his best work with folks who are ready to engage their stories, their conflict, and their full capacity for growth.

RESIDENT DOG

Marshmallow, Certified Good Boy

Marshmallow is a gentle giant — an 80-pound Great Pyrenees–Poodle mix who looks closer to 100, thanks to a considerable floof. He is calm, quiet, and entirely undemanding: neither a licker nor a barker, he spends most sessions doing a convincing impression of a rug. Marshmallow doesn't keep regular hours, so his presence is always a pleasant surprise rather than a promise. And if you'd rather not direct greeting, he won't take it personally — he's perfectly content as a cloud beneath the desk.

North Mountain Counseling currently has a single clinician. We share a suite with two excellent Marriage and Family Therapists and an exceptional adolescent psychiatric nurse practitioner, whose practices you can find here and here.
